Premier League loan deal still on NUFC’s radar if player becomes available in January – Report

Newcastle United are still monitoring Chelsea striker Armando Broja ahead of the January transfer window, according to new reports.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claim that ourselves and Everton remain interested in the 21-year-old, keeping a close eye on his situation in case he becomes available on loan this winter.

After signing a new long-term deal at Chelsea and receiving assurances from Graham Potter, he’s expected to remain at Stamford Bridge for the second half of the 2022/23 season, but it seems we’ll be towards the front of the queue should that stance change.

Broja was heavily linked over the summer and described as one of our leading targets up top at one stage. He was considered an alternative to Hugo Ekitike – who stalled on a move to St James’ Pak and ended up at PSG – however the club committed to a record move for Alexander Isak instead.

A few months later, it’s hard to imagine how he’d get in our side should he become available in the new year. He could replace Chris Wood as a back-up option, but his route to regular game time would surely be blocked by Wilson and Isak, making any loan move seem unlikely?

Speaking on his future, Broja’s had this to say since signing a new deal at his boyhood club:

“I see it as a massive opportunity for me and my family. This is my boyhood club. I love to play for Chelsea… it’s a big-stepping stone from where I was last season to where I am now.”
