Newcastle ready to sell long-serving defender if £10m offer arrives – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle could be willing to listen to offers of around £10m for club captain Jamaal Lascelles in January as the defender has struggled for game time since the arrival of Eddie Howe.

Formerly a regular starter in this Newcastle side, the 28-year-old has been pushed behind Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn and recently made just his fourth league appearance of the season off the bench against Aston Villa.

Ironically enough, the one game our captain did start was our only defeat of this campaign against Liverpool – although it would be very harsh to blame that on Lascelles who put in a good performance against a top team.

Despite his lack of game time, Howe made sure he remained captain due to his admiration of the defender’s leadership skills and positive attitude around the training ground.

The centre-back could be allowed to leave as early as January but only if he forces the move and if it is worth around £10m so that we can find his replacement fairly soon after.

After making 219 appearances for the club, the ex-Nottingham Forest man will always be a hero at Newcastle for playing a key role in getting us get back to the Premier League and maintaining our position for a number of years
