In his latest piece for The Telegraph, Luke Edwards has revealed that Alexander Isak is expected to return to action for Newcastle’s Boxing Day clash with Leicester City.
The Swede scored in two of three appearances after completing a club-record move from Real Sociedad, but has been missing since September’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth after suffering a thigh injury on international duty.
He suffered setback in October, ruling him out until after the World Cup, but it’s believed he’s making good progress and will be eased back into training as the squad head to Saudi Arabia on Sunday for a week-long training camp.
It remains to be seen if he’ll feature in our friendly with Al-Hilal next Thursday, but you’d expect him to feature in our St James’ Park clash with Rayo Vallecano on Saturday 17th December.
In light of Isak’s return, The Telegraph have issues an update on Chris Wood’s future, reporting that the club have decided NOT to sell the New Zealand international.
He’s considered to be a reliable back-up option for Eddie Howe, is happy on Tyneside and a ‘popular’ member of the dressing room, meaning he’ll stay for the remainder of the season; unless a ‘huge offer’ arrives next month.
I have missed watching Isak play, I loved him from his playing days in Sociedad. I just hope he returns from injury stronger and I believe he has the potential to compete with premier league top strikers like Halland, G.jesus harry Kane and the rest.
