Newcastle linked with another World Cup semi-finalist after current club sign replacement

According to reports north of the border, Newcastle United are one of four Premier League clubs showing interest in Croatian defender Josip Juranovic.

Scottish paper the Sunday Post claim that ourselves, Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham are all keen on the right-back following his impressive displays in Qatar.

Juranovic has been one of the standout defender’s at the World Cup, delivering another rock solid display to keep Brazil’s Vinicius Junior quiet in their shoot-out win over Brazil last week.

It seems Celtic are already resigned to losing the 27-year-old, as Canadian right back Alistair Johnston has already completed a move from CF Montreal.

The Croatian isn’t the first World Cup full-back we’ve been linked with in recent weeks, as we revealed that teammate Borna Sosa was another player Toon scouts were watching closely.

Newcastle have been tipped to bring in competition for Kieran Trippier next month, with Emil Krafth at risk of missing the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, however a couple of younger options have been mentioned, such as West Ham’s Harrison Ashby and Leeds’ Coady Drameh.

Considering Juranovic turns 28 next year and will be wanting first-team football, I’d file this latest rumour in the unlikely column; no matter how solid he’s looked in Qatar.
