Howe drops new January transfer hint – Signings on the horizon but major moves not happening?

In his recent press conference, Eddie Howe has hinted that Newcastle may target ‘improving the squad rather than improving the starting 11’ in January due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

The 45-year-old explained how Newcastle will be in a ‘difficult position’ next month, feeling we are struggling to ‘improve the team without spending lots of money which we don’t have’.

There have been rumours circulating that Newcastle may not be able to afford the likes of James Maddison and Moussa Diaby, who would slot straight into the first team, but instead target young players or bargains to improve the overall squad.

This would explain our links to a number of young and inexperienced right-backs as well as Marcus Thuram, who is soon to be out of contract and could leave on the cheap.

Howe will obviously be hoping for some reinforcements in the coming weeks, but it appears unlikely that we should expect any big-name moves at least until the summer.
