“He’s going to Newcastle” – Sky Sports told Toon are closing in on second signing of 2023

It sounds like Newcastle United may be closing in on the signing of Real Valladolid talent Ivan Fresneda.

Speaking to Sky Sports News earlier today, Spanish football expert Fernando Kallas claimed his teammates and coach are “already said goodbye” to the 18-year-old, stating that a potential switch to St James’ Park is almost a done deal.

The Toon seem intent on signing a young right-back this month and it seems Fresneda is a top target, with head scout Steve Nickson spotted watching the teenager in action last Friday.

Kallas adds that the Spanish talent has “had conversations” with Real Madrid and Barcelona – showing how highly-rated he is in his homeland – but believes a move to Newcastle is close to completion.

Here’s what the journalist told Sky Sports this morning:

“He’s 18-year-old and he made a very good game over the weekend. He neutralised Vinicius Junior when Real Madrid played Valladolid. I heard the coach and his team-mates are already saying goodbye to him because it’s fairly a done deal that he’s going to Newcastle.

“He had conversations with Real Madrid and Barcelona. He’s a very young player, he’s been in the Spanish national team under-18s and under-17s too. He’s going to be a good player and he’s another example of how the Premier League are just dominating the market going after players in the big five leagues. It’s almost unfair right now.”

Should Fresneda arrive on Tyneside, he’ll be our second signing of the January transfer window following Garang Kuol’s £300,000 switch from Central Coast Mariners.
