Two more Brazilians linked with Toon move as search for South American stars continues

Newcastle have been linked with both Flamengo’s Joao Gomes and Athletico Paranaense’s Viktor Roque as we continue our search for South American stars.

Goal have reported that Newcastle have joined a host of European clubs ‘taking steps’ towards Roque’s signature, although the 17-year-old forward is currently protected by a €60m release clause.

According to Brazilian journalist Bruno Lemos, we are also interested in 21-year-old talent Joao Gomes, claiming a January move for the highly-rated midfielder is under consideration as Howe plans to strengthen his engine room.

Both Steve Nickson, head of recruitment, and Dan Ashworth, sporting director, have often searched for top young talents in the South American market, so this is certainly not out of the ordinary.

Gomes and Roque add to the long list of Brazilian youngsters we’ve been linked with since the takeover, with Flamengo’s Matheus Franca, Santos’ Angelo Gabriel and Vasco da Gama winger Eguinaldo also watched if recent reports are to be believed.

After missing out on Andrey Santos and Maximo Perrone who opted to sign for Chelsea and Man City respectively, Newcastle will be hoping that they can pull off a deal for one of these talents sooner rather than later.

  1. I think someone at Goal for football manager for Christmas and is just taking through young Brazilian players to link with Newcastle.

These articles are just nonsense!!. Nobody really know who our first time targets are let alone 17/18yr olds
