Joelinton arrested for drink driving – Official Northumbria police statement and court date set

Newcastle midfielder Joelinton has been charged with drink-driving on the morning of January 12 and will appear in court at the end of this month.

At 1:20am on Thursday morning, the Brazilian was pulled over by the police in the Ponteland Road area and arrested for driving whilst being over the prescribed alcohol limit.

The 26-year-old is now set to appear in court on January 26 and Newcastle officials, including head coach Eddie Howe, have been made aware of the situation.

The incident occurred just over 24 hours after our quarter-final victory over Leicester and it is yet to be seen how this will affect our number seven moving forwards.

A spokesperson from Northumbria Police had this to say:

“Shortly before 1.20am today (Thursday) officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant.

“Joelinton Casio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol. He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.”

  1. As Captain Mainwaring would say, …. “Stupid boy”.
Let’s hope he can put this behind him and he gets on with his game seeing it is around the semi-final time and we don’t need any distractions.
