Joelinton now at risk of Newcastle United axe ahead of Sunday’s clash with Fulham

Newcastle star Joelinton is at risk of being dropped for our Premier League clash against Fulham following his arrest for drink-driving on Thursday morning.

The Brazilian was pulled over by police at 1:20am, just a matter of hours before training, and arrested for breaching the alcohol limit, with a court date already set for January 26.

This difficult situation could certainly affect his place in the team on Sunday, with Eddie Howe unlikely to just forgive and forget so quickly given Joelinton is a role model who should know better.

Howe is due to hold his pre-match press conference from the club’s training ground this morning, so it’ll be interesting to see what the boss has to say on the matter.

It remains to be seen how severe the punishment will be, but many feel he is likely to be left out of this weekend’s squad as a result of his actions. Not only are Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak are back fit, it may sent out the wrong message to keep him in the side.

It’s very disappointing from the much-loved midfielder and no fan should be defending this type of behaviour. However, it is now for the club to deal with and decide the best course of action.

No doubt Joelinton himself will be frustrated with his moment of madness – rightfully so – and hopefully he will learn his lesson for good.

  1. I genuinely don’t believe he deliberately went out with the intention of getting over the limit. If he did, well more fool him. Also, it’s just too much of a coincidence that the police apparently were waiting for him.
I reckon he’s been stiched up. Just my opinion…

  2. Being ‘over the limit’ can mean anything and certainly doesn’t automatically mean he was drunk.

  3. Not much sense in fact no sense at all!
Hairdresser’s during lockdown and now drink driving.
Unfortunately some “footballers” think they are above the law and have no sense of responsibility to the club or fans.

  4. Silly man no excuse at all, he will be severely punished and rightly so not only from the club, but the owners who being arab will not look at this favourably at all.
He will be lucky to receive a fine and suspension, goes against everything Eddie is looking for in his players.
You can easily drive and get a taxi back, even a “piggyback” where you order a taxi with two drivers to take you home and with your car being driven by the other taxi driver, whats hard about that, especially with all the money they are paid. Sad. HWTL

  5. There are some seriously self righteous comments on here today.
You would think that nobody had ever been over the limit and driven before.
Was it silly, yes. Is it the end of the world – no.
Should he be disciplined by the club?
Of course not. It’s nothing to do with the club.
You can’t discipline a player for being a “bad role model”. If you did, some players would never get on the pitch.
Some comedian on another site suggesting it’s appalling behaviour, claiming “he could have run over a child!” Aye, we have to do whatever we can to stop our kids being run over at 1:30 in the morning.

I look forward to the lad playing against Fulham, and I personally will be cheering him on as usual.

That’s the problem with society in general today.
No self discipline, everyone does as they like!

  7. We don’t know how much he was over the limit. We don’t have any details.
Lets wait till after the hearing before we execute him.

  8. He was OVER the limit end of. I wonder how many people in here would be so forgiving if a member of their family was run over and killed by him because his judgement was impaired due to be over the limit? Jees man!
