Speaking from outside St James’ Park, Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has issued an update on the transfer front on Tyneside.
He reports that a late move for Conor Gallagher looks ‘unlikely’ as things stand, with a deal only possible if Chelsea change their stance.
Downie reports that we remain keen to sign the 22-year-old and are still working on possible loan, however it seems the Blues are making life difficult.
It’s thought they don’t want to do business with a ‘direct rival’ – we are currently 10 points clear of Graham Potter’s side – and are also pricing us out of a potential deal. They are reluctant to sanction any loan and the price they’re demanding for a permanent deal is ‘considered too high’ by Newcastle, with The Telegraph claiming they want over £50m.
Elsewhere, Sky Sports have released footage of Jonjo Shelvey at the City Ground. He’s completed his medical and is expected to sign a two-and-a-half year deal with Nottingham Forest today.
