Newcastle United star now in danger of two-game ban

Eddie Howe’s shortage of midfield options could be put to the test once again in the coming weeks, as Joelinton is two bookings away from a TWO-game suspension.

The Brazilian picked up his eighth caution of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham, with Peter Bankes penalising the big man for a blatant dive in the second half.

As Premier League rules state, if a player accumulates 10 yellow cards prior to their team’s 32nd fixture of the season they receive a two-match ban.

The good news is that Joelinton would NOT miss the Carabao Cup final if he picked up bookings in upcoming games against Bournemouth and Liverpool, however it’s another far from ideal predicament for a Newcastle side short on midfielders.

Bruno Guimaraes will be back from suspension for the final later this month and will return after that for league fixtures against the likes of Man City, Wolves and Nottingham Forest, but these are games his fellow Brazilian could miss should he pick up two more cautions.

So, Joelinton has until the 32nd round of Premier League fixtures – scheduled for the weekend of April 22 (Newcastle vs Spurs) – meaning our man mountain will have to be on his best behaviour over the coming months.

  1. Needs to learn some on pitch and off pitch discipline and stop mouthing off at referees.
Would a sin bin during the match for misbehaviour?
I think this could be a good thing.
