Player ‘open’ to Newcastle United move after agent makes contact with club – Report

According to The Chronicle, Kieran Tierney has made it known he’d be interested in joining Newcastle United,

The Arsenal left-back has been heavily linked with a summer move to St James’ Park over the past week, having lost his place to Oleksandr Zinchenko this season.

Lee Ryder reports that the player’s representatives have already been in contact with the club, sounding out whether we’d be keen to bring the Scotland international to Tyneside.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years, but he’s been largely available across 2022/23, featuring 25 times in all competitions and starting all six of the Gunners’ Europa League games.

However, it seems a summer move is on the cards four years on from his £27m move from Celtic, with Tierney keen to play regular first-team football.

It remains to be seen if we’ll pursue the Scot – I’m sure he is one of several options currently under consideration – but it does feel like the signing of a more attack-minded left-back will be on the agenda. Dan Burn and Matt Targett are both reliable defenders and solid squad options, but have their limitations in possession.

Asked about Tierney’s future amid Newcastle’s interest, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said this today:

“I don’t know, I’m not thinking about it. I’m thinking about what’s best for the team. Obviously the players have the right to play, which they all deserve. We’re going to try to do that in next couple of games.”
