Toon ‘lead race’ to sign £25m talent and could strike deal with Aston Villa or Brentford – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are in pole position to sign Bristol City wonderkid Alex Scott this summer.

They claim that West Ham, Wolves and Crystal Palace have all been showing interest in the 19-year-old sensation, but it’s thought Newcastle are currently leading the race for his signature.

Scott – an attacking midfielder and England U20 international – has been one of the breakout stars in the Championship this season, showing his class in front of the TV cameras during Bristol City’s FA Cup defeat to Man City last night.

A buy-to-loan deal has been touted, which would allow the teenager to return Ashton Gate for the 2023/24 season, with the Robins expected to demand £25m for the versatile midfielder.

The same outlet report that a number of clubs, including Aston Villa and Brentford, are considering a summer move for back-up keeper Martin Dubravka.

Both Premier League sides are reportedly preparing for their current goalkeepers, Emiliano Martinez and David Raya, to depart in the next window and are lining up the Slovakian as a replacement.

Martinez has been linked with European giants such as Atlético Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan while Raya is being monitored by Tottenham as a Hugo Lloris replacement.

After a bizarre loan move to Man United in the first half of the season, the 34-year-old returned to the club in January and has since made just two appearances – once in an FA Cup defeat and once against Liverpool after Nick Pope’s sending off.

Despite being under contract until 2025, it is unlikely that our former number one shot-stopper will be at the club next season and it would make sense to cash in now while there is still significant interest.
