£30m deal prioritised by Eddie Howe as Newcastle plot first-team upgrade – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are planning a summer move for Kieran Tierney – who could leave for around £30m if Arsenal sanction an end-of-season sale.

It’s believed the signing of an attacking left-back is one of our top priorities, with Eddie Howe a ‘long-term admirer’ of the Scotland international who he tried to sign at Bournemouth prior to his move to the Emirates.

The former Celtic star has lost his place in Mikel Arteta’s XI to Oleksandr Zinchenko, meaning a summer switch could be on the cards. However, it’s thought the 25-year-old could cost ‘in excess of £30m’ should the Premier League leaders sanction his departure. He joined for £25m in 2019 and still has three years left on his contract after signing an extension in June 2021.

Tierney has started just four league games all season – all of the which they’ve won – and remains an ever-present in their Europa League campaign. Yet, with just 20 minutes of game time in the Premier League since the turn of the year, he could well push for a move in search of regular minutes.

So, he won’t come cheap, but The Telegraph reckon he is one of our leading targets and a player Eddie Howe is eager to pursue if the Gunners agree to let him go.
