Man of the match display sees NUFC loanee named in Team of the Week alongside ex-Mag

Newcastle loanee Karl Darlow put in a man of the match display in Hull City’s 2-0 win over West Brom on Friday, seeing him feature in the Championship Team of the Week alongside former Mag Dwight Gayle.

Gayle enjoyed a great return to the North East on Saturday, netting twice in Stoke City’s 5-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

As for Darlow, it was his home debut for the Tigers and second appearance since he arrived in January, where he made six saves and kept a clean sheet for his new side.

The 32-year-old is likely to leave on a permanent deal this summer, recently hinting at a move away from St James’ Park after Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka have limited his game time on Tyneside.

Speaking about his future after his MOTM display, here’s what Darlow told Hull Live:

“From my perspective, I could have let it go another six months, another 12 months [before leaving] and before you know it, you’re three years into not playing.

“For me, I’m ambitious. I’m young – for a goalkeeper, I’m 32, I’ve got years ahead of me and I want to prolong my career by playing football, making sure I’m still in people’s minds and that they have not forgot about me.”
