Newcastle have undergone a sudden resurgence under new Saudi Arabian owners that took over the club in October 2021. This saw the Magpies move from finishing 11th in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign to a potential Top 4 side this season. This has led to lots of changes on and off the pitch. We all see it every matchday as it headlines our kits – both matchday and training kits since as far back as 2017. The partnership was even renewed in 2020 to last until the 2024/25 season.
However, the deal is to end a year early. Why? The current deal with Fun88 is worth just £6.5M yearly, one of the league’s lowest. In comparison, Manchester City’s Etihad sponsorship is worth about £67.5M.
This meager deal with Fun88 has limited Newcastle’s spending power under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. The Club will turn its head and look for a new sponsor for the 2023/24 season in a bid to have more spending power going into the transfer market.
Parimatch
One of the new deals signed under the new administration is a partnership deal with Parimatch. Newcastle signed a media rights deal with Parimatch in September 2022. Parimatch is one of the fastest-growing sports betting platforms around the world. It already has deals with three other Premier League clubs in Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leicester.
BoyleSports
BoyleSports signed a two year deal with Newcastle in 2021 as the club’s official “UK and Ireland Betting Partner.” BoyleSports is Ireland’s largest bookmaker, and the deal came up as a very profitable one for both sides. The deal with BoyleSports is focused on branding rights, fan engagement activities and exclusive matchday experiences. They offer toons the opportunity to place matchday bets at St. James Park.
What to expect in coming years
It’s a new beginning for Newcastle. The takeover of the club by an investment group led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) definitely spells the dawn of a new era. Newcastle United now has the richest owner in the Premier League by a large margin.
The ambitiousness of the group can be seen in the amount they’ve spent since the takeover in October 2021. Since the takeover, Newcastle has led the table for the largest net spend by any Premier League side with £221 Million!

This increase in revenue can be achieved by striking better and richer deals. As seen with the Fun88 deal, expectations are that long meager deals will be cut early to find better sponsors. For short term deals like the BoyleSports deal, it will run out, and the owners will look out for richer iGaming platforms to sponsor the club.
The impact of Newcastle’s turnaround on iGaming platforms
Newcastle ended the 2021/22 season with an 11th place finish which could have been much worse if not for the appointment of Eddie Howe in November 2021, a month after the takeover. Eddie Howe won 12 of the last 18 games of the season, including 6 home consecutive wins, for the first time since 2004.
Newcastle didn’t win any of the first 14 games of the season. The Magpies now sit in 5th place, four points below 4th place with two games in hand. We have the lowest number of losses in the season with just two, both to Liverpool. This season also saw us reach the Carabao Cup Finals, our first final in any competition since the FA Cup Finals of 1999, where we also lost to Manchester United by the same scoreline, 2-0.
