Saudi PIF announcement gets Middle East media talking – Next stop, Newcastle United?

The Saudi Arabia PIF have launched their own airline Riyadh Air – a new Middle Eastern company that’s already being tipped to team up with Newcastle United in the near future.

It has also been announced that the Governor of PIF, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, will be the chairman of the company and that they will have an ‘operational hub’ in the city, connecting them to 100 destinations.

According to The Chronicle, the media in Riyadh are already reporting that multi-million deal could be on the horizon for the Magpies, who are on the lookout for a new front-of-shirt sponsor now our deal with FUN88 is due to expire this summer.

It’s also got Toon fans talking on Tyneside, especially when the PIF-launched company will be lead by current Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan; a man who could sign off our search for lucrative new deals alongside Amanda Staveley, CEO Darren Eales and chief commercial officer Peter Silverstone.

Any potential deal with Riyadh Air could be key to our summer transfer window, with those at the top looking to capitalise on our great form this season and invest within FFP restrictions to solidify our strong position in the league.

It’s clear to see this is the next step in our long-term project if we want to become an established top European club. Whoever becomes our front-of-shirt sponsor, hopefully they become the first of many profitable deals struck on Tyneside over the next 12 months.

  1. When you say the Saudi Arabia PIF have launched their own airline – Riyadh Air, I was just wondering who you think owns Saudia?
