Updated PL table as big wins on Wednesday add to the importance of tomorrow’s trip to Forest

All the talk has been about Spurs and Liverpool when it comes to Newcastle’s tussle with the ‘big six’, but there’s two other sides pushing for European football.

Last night, Brighton and Brentford both secured big wins to close the gap to Eddie Howe’s Mags, as the Seagulls beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at the Amex and Thomas Frank’s Bees left Southampton with a 2-0 victory.

The results leave Brighton (7th) just two points behind Newcastle, while Brentford (8th) sit three points being ourselves, giving us additional motivation going into tomorrow night’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Win and we’ll move to within one point of Spurs (4th) – with a game in hand – and just three behind Man Utd (3rd). Conte’s men face a very beatable Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday, but a win at the City Ground would pile the pressure on.

Brighton, Man Utd and Liverpool all blank this weekend, giving us a chance to extend our lead over the chasing pack and edge to within a win of the Red Devils; who face a trip to St James’ Park in their next league game after the international break.

Here’s the Premier League table following last night’s results:
