James Maddison’s stance on Newcastle move as Leicester star is named top Toon target – Report

According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Leicester star James Maddison is ‘intrigued’ by the project on offer at Newcastle United.

The report states that Newcastle have resurrected their interest and identified the Premier League playmaker as our top summer target after having two bids rejected last year.

Douglas adds that securing Champions League football could ‘seal the deal’, with the ambitious 26-year-old desperate to play at the highest level – and boost his England hopes – after experiencing Europa League football with Leicester.

With his contract set to expire next summer, the piece adds that he is highly unlikely to sign a new contract at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester set to reluctantly cash in while they can as he approaches the final 12 months of his deal.

We may have a chance to sign the midfielder without the attraction of top four, hoping he buys into our long-term project and doesn’t receive offers from the likes of Man City, but it seems Champions League football could be key.
