Jonjo Shelvey’s bizarre dig at former Toon teammates after 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest

Speaking after our Friday night win over Nottingham Forest, former Mag Jonjo Shelvey was involved in an odd interview with Sky Sports.

He was visibly gutted to see his new side lose the game in the 93rd minute, but took a surprise swipe at his ex-Toon teammates, saying “I didn’t think they’d whinge as much as they did on the pitch.”

The midfielder claims there’s “a lot of whinge bags in their team” – a bizarre take following a game full of unpunished Forest fouls and awful decisions that very nearly cost us two points.

Shelvey himself was extremely lucky to avoid a booking, clattering Bruno Guimaraes on several occasions and taking Trippier out on the edge of the box – none of which he was booked for.

In his defence, the 31-year-old does hope we “get into Europe”, saying he has “nothing but positive words about the club”, yet his comments on our complaining seem a bit rich when he and his Forest teammates got away with it all night…until the 93rd minute.

Asked what it was like to face his former teammates, the midfielder said this after the game:

“I didn’t think they (Newcastle players) would whinge as much as they did on the pitch.

“But it’s a game of football. I represent this football club now. I’ll give it my all. I’m there to win.

“I’ll speak to them now but yeah, there’s a lot of whinge bags in their team. I’ll tell them that in a jokey way.

“I hope they get into Europe. I have nothing but positive words about the club.”

  1. Such a poor article, you’ve taken his interview way out of context. You can clearly see he was smiling and having banter with newcastle. He loves the club more then forest.
