6ft 4′ giant watched by Newcastle as club plan Chris Wood replacement – Report

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle United have been showing interest in Udinese striker Beto.

This comes from Messaggero Veneto – a local outlet based in Udine that focuses on all things Udinese – who report that Toon scouts have been in Italy to watch the 6ft 4′ forward.

They claim we showed interest in the Portuguese giant in January see the 25-year-old as an ideal back-up option to Alexander Isak and ideal Chris Wood replacement. This isn’t actually the first time we’ve been linked, with Mondo Udinese tipping us to make a move just a few days before Wood signed in 2022.

Beto has scored nine goals in 27 appearances this season and has reached double figures in each of his last three seasons, finding the net 13 times over 2021/22 campaign.

The Telegraph revealed earlier this week that we’ll be in the market for a ‘powerful striker’ this summer, stating that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a player with presence, power and the ability to bring others into play following Wood’s move to Nottingham Forest.

With this in mind, Beto’s huge frame, turn of pace and impressive record of 20 goals in 55 Serie A appearances may appeal to the club; especially if he’s available at a reasonable price.

Here’s a few clips of the big man in action:
