Embarrassing from Erik ten Hag as Man Utd boss takes another swipe at Newcastle – Hypocrite…

Erik ten Hag is at it again, moaning about Newcastle United for the second time this season ahead of Man Utd’s trip to St James’ Park this weekend.

The Dutchman called us ‘annoying’ leading up to last month’s Carabao Cup final and he’s been talking about our time-wasting tactics during today’s press conference from Manchester:

It’s a concern,’ said Ten Hag. “We know they [Newcastle] are wasting time. yeah. It’s something that the referees don’t want, they want to have tempo in the game. That is the aim of the Premier League to have tempo in the game. So they (referees) also have to be consistent to let the game go. Do and act what the policy is.

I smell a hypocrite. Just days before the cup final at Wembley, the same Man Utd side were wasting every second possible in the second half of their Europa League clash with Barcelona. Even in the final, David De Gea was booked for delaying the taking of his goal kicks, attempting to slow down any momentum we were attempting to build at 2-0 down. The irony.

If that wasn’t enough, they spent the first 20 minutes time-wasting at Anfield before being battered 7-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. As Eddie Howe has said, we’re not here to be popular, we’re here to win, but these comments from ten Hag are getting a bit silly now.

Asked about ten Hag’s ‘annoying’ comments, Howe had this to say earlier today:

“It’s part of the game, but not the main part of the game. The main part of the game is we have to play well. We have to be really good in possession and really good out of possession.

“The game management stuff has been massively overblown towards us in the media. That’s just my opinion.

“First and foremost, we want to be a good football team, but if there are things you can do, as Kieran showed for the penalty, to help your team in certain moments, that are all within the laws of the game, we will try to do it.”

  1. Didn’t see the conference but I guess he was asked a question so not sure he would say owt else.

Everyone knows all teams time waste/ time manage / 5h1thouse

Maybe worth enjoying the good feeling that the self proclaimed elite are focussed on Newcastle as a team that now matter and are a threat at the top.

No longer to be patronised as the team roll over or offer little beyond a practice match but respected as a threat to their dominance

    I’ll take more of that

  2. They’re properly narked because we’re here, we’ve no plans to disappear anytime soon, and they know that.
It’s nice to be able to get under the skin of this lot. It’s a refreshing change.
Let’s just hope we turn up Sunday and give Baldy and his Manc Reds a proper shoeing. 😂
