According to Football Insider, Newcastle will face tough competition from the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona if we want to secure the signing of Youri Tielemans this summer.
The midfielder looks set to leave Leicester on a free transfer in the next window, with his contract due to expire after he refused to sign a new deal at the King Power.
Liverpool had been in the race for the Belgian, but have pulled out in recent weeks after their club scouts deemed that he wasn’t ‘mobile enough’ for their liking. However, it’s thought we retain a serious interest alongside Arsenal and Barcelona.
Newcastle have been linked with Tielemans for some time now, with Sky Sports reporting on our interest last summer and The Athletic confirming earlier this year that he’s a player we’ve watched closely.
A free transfer of his quality could benefit our bid to work within FFP restrictions, but it’s thought the 26-year-old would demand big wages, so it remains to be seen how we will adapt our current structure in the next few windows.
