As revealed by The Athletic, Newcastle will head to the United States of America this summer to compete in a six-club tournament.
The Premier League are expected to announce the pre-season plans ‘this week’, where Newcastle United will compete with Aston Villa, Brighton, Chelsea, Brentford and Leeds – although the latter will only be involved if they don’t suffer relegation to the Championship.
The tournament is expected to take place at the end of July and was initially put forward to take place last summer, only for issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic preventing it from going ahead.
The “Summer Series” will see us take on our Premier League rivals in cities and stadiums in the USA’s eastern time zone, giving us a fresh chance to expand our fanbase across the pond and boost our commercial prospects in that part of the world.
We have already announced some pre-season plans, with us due to take on Rangers at Ibrox on Tuesday 18th July in a testimonial match for goalkeeper Allan Mcgregor.
