95th minute drama hands Toon shock boost in top-four race – despite 3-0 defeat at Aston Villa

Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat at Aston Villa was a bad one in today’s early kick-off, but the damage has been eased with a little help from Bournemouth.

In their 3pm clash with Tottenham, Eddie Howe’s former side not only survived a late onslaught, but won 3-2 at the death as Dango Ouattara scored a 95th minute winner in North London.

A win for Spurs would’ve taken them level with Newcastle ahead of next Sunday’s clash at St James’ Park, but another defeat keeps them three behind and in dismal form.

Richarlison actually missed a sitter just moments before Bournemouth’s extra time winner and they also suffered yet another injury, as centre-back Clement Lenglet limped off with a muscle problem early on.

The only downside from the 3pm results was a huge win for Brighton, who got themselves back into top-four contention thanks to a 2-1 win at Chelsea. That result still leaves them seven behind Newcastle, however.

Here’s a clip from Sky’s Gillette Soccer Saturday as Spurs lost it at the death, followed by an updated Premier League table:
