“Newcastle sent their scouts” – Fabrizio Romano claims Toon are tracking Serie A defender

A few weeks ago, Sky Italy reported that Newcastle United were preparing a summer bid for Torino defender Perr Schuurs.

Speaking about our alleged interest, Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that club scouts have been taking a close look at the Dutch centre-back.

He’s not aware of any ‘bis of concrete talks’ as of yet, but reveals that we had scouts watching the 23-year-old in action in February and March this year, suggesting he really is a player on our radar.

Schuur played in the same Ajax academy as Sven Botman and has previously partnered the Toon giant in the Netherlands’ U21 side. He stands 6ft 3′ tall and is a right-sided centre-back who has impressed in Serie A this season.

Here’s what Romano told CaughtOffside when asked about a potential move to St James’ Park for the Dutchman:

“Despite rumours, I’m not aware of bids or concrete talks with Newcastle and Perr Schuurs at this stage.

“Many clubs are following the talented Torino centre-back; Newcastle sent their scouts in February and March, Inter did the same.”
