According to reports, Newcastle United are stepping up their attempts to bring Fenerbahce wonderkid Arda Guler to St James’ Park this summer.
Football Insider report that club officials jetted out to Dubai over the weekend to meet the 18-year-old’s family, selling a move to Tyneside and submitting proposals in a bid to beat Ajax and Barcelona to a deal.
These claims have been backed up by Turkish outlet Ajansspor, who also report that Toon representatives were in Dubai to ‘hold talks’ over a summer move for the teenage sensation.
Guler could be available at a bargain fee this summer, with a €5m release clause existing in his contract should he fail to rack up over 1500 minutes of action this season. He’s currently played 1126 minutes of football from 30 games this season, bagging six goals and four assists in the process.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the highly-rated Turk, with two reports revealing that Newcastle sent scouts to watch the youngster in Super Lig action last month.
With Dan Ashworth leading our search for top emerging talent, Guler ticks so many boxes and seems like a real one to watch in the coming weeks.
