Toon hand trial to 22-year-old winger who featured in Tyneside friendly today – Photo

Newcastle United have handed a trial to Ghanaian winger Emmanuel Owusu, who has spent the past few weeks with our academy.

The 22-year-old started down the right in the U21s 1-0 win away at Brentford last Friday and made his second appearance earlier today, where our second string took on Hibernian’s Development squad at Little Benton.

Owusu began his career with Ashanti Gold – a club competing in Ghana’s Premier League – and has most recently played for Moldovan side FC Sfintul Gheorghe and Hungry Lions FC in South Africa.

Earlier this year, the club invited Jamaican sensation Dujuan Richards for a trial on Tyneside and looked set to sign the young striker until Chelsea hijacked our move for the 17-year-old sensation.

Time will tell if Owusu earns a contract on Tyneside, although time isn’t on his side from an academy perspective, as he’ll soon be considered a senior player at the age of 22.
