Newcastle ‘put off’ by price tag as club prepare to whittle down top targets – The Telegraph

According to Luke Edwards at The Telegraph, Newcastle are refusing to pay the £70-80m asking price quoted for Dominic Szoboszlai.

Edwards has confirmed our interest in the RB Leipzig star, backing up Sky Germany’s claims that we’ve sent scouts to watch him in recent weeks.

However, it sounds like James Maddison remains our leading target, with it set to be one or the other in our pursuit of a right-sided attacking midfielder. It’s believed that we are yet to make a final decision on targets while we wait to see if a top-four finish can be secured.

One issue with preparing for the window is not knowing which European competition we will be playing in next season, which will have a huge impact on the calibre of players we can attract and the amount of money available to spend.

So, it seems Maddison is the favoured option as things stand, but Szoboszlai could be one to watch if Leipzig’s demands reduce and we secure Champions League football.
