According to Sky News, Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign a sponsorship deal with Sela – a Saudi-based events company.
It’s thought they are now the ‘leading contenders’ to replace Fun88 as our front-of-shirt sponsor, with the Asian gambling firm seeing their kit deal with the club expire this summer.
The piece states that a multimillion pound shirt sponsorship deal is close, but claim it could test the Premier League’s new related-party transactions rule, as Sela’s website suggests they are owned by our majority stakeholders PIF.
The Times reported last month that a Middle Eastern country outside of Saudi Arabia were set to sign a £25m deal with the club – UAE-based company Emaar have been heavily linked. However, it seems Sela are in pole position to become the club’s biggest commercial partner ahead of the 2023/24 season.
A deal is not done – Sky News warn that discussions ‘could still fall apart’ – but they could be announced as early as next month if talks continue to go smoothly.
