Newcastle sanction two loan moves as Dan Ashworth strikes £6m deal – The Athletic

It’s emerged today that Gambian talent Yankuba Minteh will become our first summer signing, with the 18-year-old expected on Tyneside for his medical soon.

Following news that he’ll sign for a fee in the region of £6m from Danish side Odense, The Athletic have revealed Newcastle’s immediate plans for the exciting winger.

They report that loan options are already being explored, with Minteh and Garang Kuol – another young gem signed by Dan Ashworth – expected to spend the 2023/24 season elsewhere for some much needed minutes at senior level.

So far, Minteh has four goals and six assists in 17 appearances in the Danish top flight, but he’s been left out of Odense’s squad to play FC Midtjylland tomorrow now a move to Newcastle is imminent.

Once his medical is complete and his work permit secured, we can expect to see a host of clubs linked with a loan move. After Kuol’s lack of game time with Hearts over the second half of the 2022/23 season, let’s hope both secure the right move that allows them to play regularly and develop over the coming year.

  1. I’m not convinced that the loan system is the best for these young players What wrong with putting them through the academy system and our own lower/younger teams bring them on with Newcastle through and through 🤷🏼‍♂️

  2. If loan is the way forward, for these players why not loan them to gateshead, where you can follow there development and they can be assessed whenever at bentonite. It also gives them a feel of there new home tyneside. After all playing with gateshead is a lot better than no game time in Scotland. C Tonks
