£15m deal tempting Eddie Howe after ‘hybrid’ defender impresses staff on Tyneside – Report

The Telegraph are reporting that Newcastle are considering a move for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters; who ‘impressed’ our coaching staff during our four meetings last season.

The full-back has ‘refused to commit’ to the Saints after suffering relegation to the Championship and could be available for £15m; less than half the asking price of current left-back target Kieran Tierney.

It’s thought his ability to play down either flank makes him the ‘perfect hybrid’ for Eddie Howe, who sees huge appeal in versatile players able to operate in more than one position. With a deep squad needed to cope with the demands of European football next season, it certainly helps.

If FFP restrictions remain an issue and we are wary of paying big money for Tierney due to his injury record, Walker-Peters could be a slightly underwhelming yet solid alternative to the Arsenal defender.

While it maybe not be the big name signing that some are hoping for, the former England international would be a solid addition to the squad.

  1. Absolute no brainer at £15m.

At mid twenties he’s a great option to replace Trippier in a season or 2s time as well.

Of all the names suggested from the relegated side – his is the first I’d want on an NUFC contract.
