It’s been a busy few days on Tyneside. Sam Fender has sold out St James’ Park, we’ve announced Sela as our new front-of-shirt sponsors and released our new kit for the 2023/24 season.
Starting with Sela, Sky Sports report that our ‘multi-year’ deal with the Saudi event group will bring us £25-per-season. With previous sponsor FUN88 worth just £6.5m, we look set to bank an additional £18.5m per year.
Our deal with Noon – the Amazon of the Middle East and sleeve sponsor – has been extended too. They brought in £7.5m over the 2022/23 season and it’s also thought our Amazon documentary will also earn the club in excess of £10m.
Now for the new kit, which for me is the best we’ve had in many years. The new sponsor – Sela – fits well and looks slick (it isn’t tacky like FUN88 was), the collar and sleeve trim is a nod to the 1980s. The introduction of white socks with a black trim will split opinion, but I think it looks superb.
Here’s some photos released by the club, featuring a detailed look at Castore’s latest design, along with Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton wearing the new jersey:
25 pound per season doesn’t sound much.
