Toon eyeing AC Milan maestro, Saint-Maximin set to stay and opening bid imminent – Report

According to The Mail, Newcastle have been discussing a potential move for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali, while Allan Saint-Maximin could be set to STAY at St James’ Park this summer.

In their latest transfer confidential column, they also report that we are ‘expected to make a move’ for top target James Maddison ‘this week’, suggesting our opening bid of the summer may be imminent.

As for Tonali, it’s thought his name ‘has been floated again’ in transfer discussions. The 23-year-old Italian international is a holding midfielder who has been tipped for the top. He started in every game during their run to the Champions League semi-finals and has been capped 14 times for his country.

On Saint-Maximin, The Mail claim that the Frenchman has decided to stay and fight for his place under Eddie Howe, despite a recent Instagram post reading like a goodbye message to many Toon fans.

The report that there’s been limited interest in the Frenchman, who prefers to battle it out on Tyneside and play a part in our upcoming Champions League campaign.

He’s keen to negotiate ‘new terms’ to bring him in line with the club’s new signings – the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes are thought to earn in excess of £100,000 – but it’s thought he’ll remain at the club, believing UCL football can boost his hopes of earning call-up to the France squad.

Finally, on Maddison, The Mail report that Leicester’s valuation is ‘closer to £60m’ – a huge fee for a player with 12 months left on his deal. However, they expect us to make our first formal move this week, with the transfer window set to officially open on Wednesday.
