James Maddison U-turn now reported as Toon battle Spurs for Leicester City star

An intriguing update has emerged from The Mail’s Craig Hope regarding our ongoing pursuit of James Maddison.

He reports that the 26-year-old has previously ‘preferred a move to London’, however, it seems that stance may have changed.

In his latest piece, Hope reveals that our qualification for the Champions League combined with Tottenham’s decline has left him favouring Newcastle.

The report also states that the opportunity to work with Eddie Howe – and English manager who has improved so many players already on Tyneside – is a ‘key attraction’ for the Leicester City star.

Spurs will put up a fight, with new boss Ange Postecoglou set to back the club’s interest in the England international, but it feels like we hold most of the aces. After all, we can offer Champions League football and a club on the up, while Tottenham have missed out on Europe altogether and are expected to lose Harry Kane this summer.

The tricky bit may be striking a deal with Leicester, as some reports claim they’re demanding in excess of £50m for Maddison, despite relegation and the fact he’s out of contract in 12 months time.

  2. Big Mal :-
Might be the richest club but FFP is screwing us so wouldn’t bank on anything.
    Steve Smith :-
    Agree totally
Wouldn’t play Leicester’s games over transfer fee either.

  3. Big Mal: All down to money. The richest club in the world will win that battle

Funnily enough, according to reports, Newcastle will be offering considerably lower wages than Spurs. The only way you can say it’s all down to money is if the lad signs for Spurs.

  4. All speculation, he’ll go to Tottenham and Newcastle will suffer because of previous spending and FFP rewards.
