Dan Ashworth eyeing £30m deal with Chelsea as Newcastle switch summer targets – Report

According to The Mirror, Newcastle are plotting a summer move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.

The report claims that Dan Ashworth – the man who brought him to Brighton from Getafe two years ago – is hoping to strike a cut-price deal worth £30m, with Newcastle alerted by his availability as new boss Mauricio Pochettino prepares to trim his bloated squad.

The left-back only arrived at Stamford Bridge 12 months ago in a £55m deal, but things haven’t gone to plan for the Spaniard; who looked a far better player during his time at the Amex.

Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney has been heavily linked for several weeks now and is mentioned in the piece as someone Eddie Howe has ‘long standing’ interest in, but there’s been some doubts over his poor injury record and a reluctance to overpay as a result.

Cucurella is a few years younger than Tierney, showed superb form during his one full season at Brighton and could be available if Chelsea decide to sanction an early sale, so he could be the latest to watch out for in our ongoing hunt for a new left-back.

I’d certainly back Howe to get the former Barcelona talent back to his best, as very few could’ve impressed in that ever-changing and chaotic Chelsea side last season.

  1. Mike:
According to the mirror Newcastle are after an expensive flop..

He was outstanding at Brighton and came into a Chelsea team that was a complete and utter mess from top to bottom.

I think he’d be great under Eddie Howe.
