Newcastle United ‘in talks’ to host St James’ Park friendly on September 7th – Report

According to ESPN, Newcastle United are ‘in talks’ to host an international friendly match between Saudi Arabia and Mexico during the September break.

The club are speaking with the two football federations to organise the game at St James’ Park on Thursday 7th September, while the Premier League pauses for an international break.

However, before it can be accepted by the club and two nations, the FA would also have to give their permission for the game to be held in this country.

This is the first time an idea like this has been proposed since confirmation of the £300m Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle back in October 2021, where PIF bought an 80% stake in the club.

It certainly sparked controversy back then, but more complaints could come our way soon, especially if a Saudi-coloured third kid – expected to be announced ahead of the 2023/24 season – is followed by a St James’ Park friendly involving their national side.
