Another midfielder due on Tyneside for talks after scoring stunner at U17 Euros – Video

According to a new report, Newcastle United are in talks to sign yet another teenage talent in Romeo Akachukwu.

This comes from the Northern Echo, who state that the Republic of Ireland youth international is set to visit the club’s training base at Darsley Park to discuss a potential move. It’s not quite Sandro Tonali, who arrived on Tyneside yesterday following his £55m move, but it’s great to see the club investing in the future to bolster our Academy.

The 16-year-old midfielder currently plays for Waterford FC – a side in the Irish First Division – and has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan.

Akachukwu recently impressed at the European Under-17 Championships, scoring a stunner in Ireland’s 3-0 win over Wales (watch below) before his country were beaten by Spain in the quarter-finals.

Our links to emerging talent in Ireland has been noticeable since Dan Ashworth’s arrival. Not only did he bring Evan Ferguson to Brighton back in 2021, he’s overseen deals for Alex Murphy and Reece Byrne – two players in our U21 ranks – and is currently working on a move for  Kevin Zefi; an Ireland U19 star currently at Inter Milan.

So, it seems our ever-improving scouting network is tapping into the Irish market and could make a move for Akachukwu; the latest teenage talent who could be arriving on Tyneside this summer.
