New Moussa Diaby claims arrive from Germany – Good news for Newcastle and one to watch?

Last summer, Newcastle were strong linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

In the end, the winger remained in Germany following their qualification for the Champions League, going on to bag 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

Talk of him coming to Tyneside had gone quiet in recent weeks, but German outlet Sport BILD have issued an update on his future. They claim that we are still showing ‘interest’ in the 23-year-old, adding that he is ‘aiming for a move to England.’

They also report that Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann – a fellow right winger who could well be a direct replacement for Diaby – is on the verge of joining Leverkusen.

The same piece adds that it will take €60m (£51m) to sign the Frenchman, so he won’t come cheap. However, if the player is keen on a move to the Premier League and Leverkusen have already lined up his likely replacement, it may be possible to negotiate a lower fee.

Time will tell if we remain keen on Diaby – The Mail’s Craig Hope played down a move to St James’ Park earlier this summer – but we’re clearly in the market for a top winger and have been linked with a move for the former PSG talent for almost 18 months now.
