As we revealed in an NUFCBlog exclusive last month, Newcastle are continuing to sound out a potential deal for Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco.
FootballTransfers now report that we have approached the Serie A giants over the Italian international, with Toon chiefs eager to find out how much the left-back is likely to cost.
Talks are thought to be in the ‘early stages’, but it’s interesting to see that the player has switched agency to Roc Nation; who have close ties to a number of Premier League clubs.
The piece adds that we are big admirers of the 25-year-old and eager to explore the Italian market even further after striking a deal for Sandro Tonali last month.
Dimarco has been one of the top performing left-backs in Europe over the past season and offers the sort of versatility that appeals to Eddie Howe, having operated at left-back, as a left-sided centre-back and down the left wing over the last year.
It’s feared we may be priced out of a move for the Inter star, but it’s promising to hear we are pursuing a deal for another quality player. If we’re quoted an asking price beyond our current budget, FootballTransfers suggest it may be a deal we revisit later in the window.
Really good player this guy. A big upgrade on Walker-Peters and Tierney.
Surely we could get a few quid for Targett to help to go towards his fee?
