TEAM NEWS: Newcastle release XI set to face Chelsea in Summer Series clash at 1.15am

Newcastle United have named our official team to face Chelsea in our second game of the Summer Series in Atlanta.

Here’s the side that will kick off at 1:15am:

STARTING XI: (4-3-3) Dubravka – Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn – Joelinton, Tonali, L. Miley – Almiron, Isak, Gordon

SUBS: Pope, Gillespie, Ashby, Savage, J. Miley, Turner-Cooke, Murphy, Parkinson

Howe looks to revert back to his traditional 4-3-3 formation with a strong team that includes a midfield three of Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and 17-year-old Lewis Miley who has shone in previous friendlies.

The back four which featured heavily throughout last season’s Premier League campaign returns while a front line of Isak, Almiron and Gordon could well be the attack that we look to start this season with this year.

Nick Pope makes his first pre-season appearance on the bench after recovering from the surgery he received on his at the end of last season.

All of the senior players who are missing from the team sheet tonight – Bruno, Wilson, Barnes etc. – are set to feature in our final Summer Series game against Brighton on Saturday morning (12:30am kick-off).
