‘Here we go!’ – Crystal Palace set to sign long-term Toon target after Newcastle’s €20m bid

Despite regular links with a move to St James’ Park and rejected bid in January, Brazilian talent Matheus Franca looks set to sign for Crystal Palace instead.

Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier this year that we’d failed with a €20m bid for the Flamengo attacker, while reports in South America recently tipped Newcastle to reignite their interest in the youngster and launch another bid.

Since then, we’ve seen Chelsea also ‘join the race’ for the 19-year-old sensation, but it’s Crystal Palace who’ve now agreed a deal.

In his latest ‘here we go’ announcement, Romano reveals that he’ll join the Eagles in a deal worth €30m, with €20m of that being a fixed fee, €5m in ‘easy add-ons’ and a further €5m if he ever wins a Ballon d’Or.

After a failed bid earlier this year, he was clearly someone we liked, but it seems we’re focusing on defensive recruits in what remains of the window, with a left-back, centre-back and right-back to cover for Kieran Trippier thought to be the priority.

  1. I said it once and I’ll say it again. You would not think we have champions League football next season. After what I’ve seen in America our team is just not good enough to play against the Elite. We are going to be made Mockery of.We stall too long on players we are Interested in.Then smaller clubs come in and buy them. And don’t mention financial fare play **** to me.

  2. Sadie Mane £650k a week absolutely ridiculous amongst other greedy professionals like Mbappe holding clubs to ransom.
with no FFP in their leagues the Saudi’s are going to kill the game in Europe and beyond.
Should be a global salary cap in my opinion as the riches being offered far out way their talent.

  3. Why not, FFP is a real issue for this Newcastle board who are obviously keen to work within the constraints and avoid more controversy.
I actually think they are going about their business in a smart way, not overpaying for the players on fees or wage structure, investing in the youth setup, developing the commercial revenue.
The fact is being in the champions league now is a bonus and well ahead of schedule, but the culture and identity Eddie Howe is creating is helping to make up for our inability to financially compete with Man City, Liverpool etc .
