Fabrizio Romano reveals why Bruno Guimaraes is yet to sign new contract after Toon talks

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle’s recent salary offer to Bruno Guimaraes was ‘not at the level Bruno expected’ – but talks continue and the club remain ‘confident’ he’ll sign an extension.

It looks like both parties are keen to get a new deal sorted, but are yet to agree on how much the Brazilian will earn, with Newcastle likely wanting to maintain our current wage structure.

Despite this slight disagreement, the Magpies are still confident that it will be sorted soon and are not looking for a potential replacement if the 25-year-old does not sign the extension.

Bruno clearly wants to stay on Tyneside and will be hoping that the club return with an improved offer as soon as possible. He’s contracted to the club until 2026, but you can see why he’s pushing for improved terms after an outstanding 18 months.

Here’s what Romano said on the matter when speaking to CaughtOffside:

“Negotiations are ongoing at Newcastle over the new contract of star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The club are confident of reaching an agreement with the player. Their first proposal in terms of salary was not at the level Bruno expected, but talks continue.

“For Newcastle, the Brazilian’s contract is a priority; therefore, they are not currently searching the market for replacements should Guimaraes decide not to sign a new deal.”

It does not appear to be a situation that fans should be particularly worries about as both sides are working together to finalise the new contract, but just something to keep an eye on for now.
