Sky Sports: Everton launch bid for £30m flop who almost joined Newcastle last summer

According to Sky Sports, Everton have now submitted a bid to sign former Toon target Hugo Ekitike.

This comes from Alan Myers – Sky’s man on Merseyside – and North-East reporter Keith Downie, with their opening offer believed to be a loan bid that includes an obligation to buy at the end of the 2023/24 season.

The 21-year-old impressed during his time at Reims and looked set to join Newcastle at one stage last summer. However, the player and his agent stalled on the move following late interest from PSG and he ended up sealing a £30m move to the French giants; where he’s struggled for game time.

This is no surprise when up against the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi, although it’s quite telling that the Ligue 1 side are already looking to move him on.

Looking back, it’s a good job he U-turned on a propose move to St James’ Park, as we’ve gone on to sign Alexander Isak; a player we may not have signed had Ekitike said yes this time last year?
