Shocking VAR error saves Man Utd’s bacon on Monday night – Watch farcical incident here

The new season is just a few days old and VAR is at it again, with officials at Old Trafford missing a blatant penalty that should’ve seen Man Utd drop two points to Wolves.

With the Red Devils 1-0 up and hanging on for dear life in extra time, new goalkeeper Andre Onana came out to clear a cross in the 96th minute but instead clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic, completely missing the ball and taking out the man.

It was one of THE most ‘clear and obvious’ penalties you’ll see in football, yet VAR didn’t even ask the on-field referee to take another look, allowing Erik ten Hag’s side to take all three points. Watch the incident below:

Wolves were comfortably the better side and deserved to be in front before Raphael Varane’s opener, but the decision to deny them a stone wall penalty – and allow our top-four rivals to get away with it once again – felt wrong.

If Wolves were 1-0 up and Jose Sa clattered into Marcus Rashford at the other end, I’m almost certain VAR intervene, ask the referee to take another look and award a penalty. PGMOL have already apologised to Wolves, accepting they made the wrong call, but it’s a little late now.

I was actually encouraged to see Man Utd play so poorly, but it’s concerning to see one of our ‘big six’ rivals receive protection from referees once again.

  1. Corrupt and deliberately incompetent VAR officials, they must be getting some huge backhanders from Man Utd and Liverpool to name two in particular over time.

  2. These ref’s involved get a one match ban, whilst Wolves, who haven’t signed anybody and just changed manager, lose two precious points in a game they pretty much bossed. Let’s stop being generous – they were cheated. It’s IMPOSSIBLE that three qualified ref’s, two with camera angles from every direction can all get that wrong, unless they wanted to. Anybody who thinks that a one game ban will mean the cheating will stop, is deluded. You can’t get that wrong unless you wanted to get it wrong and that goes beyond cheating really, it’s corrupt. If it wasn’t so serious, it would’ve been funny, but Wolves won’t be laughing and neither should anybody who cares about integrity in the game. A one game ban won’t stop it.
In a situation like this, the ref’s involved should be forced to face the press and explain themselves. That would be funnier than the decision itself.
