Huge claims from Staveley, Shearer & CCO as mega-money deal launches Toon to next level

“The club meet with Adidas to strike the biggest deal in the history of the club….one which would be worth hundreds of millions over an initial five year period”.

This was Alan Shearer’s opening line during the leaked Amazon episode that confirmed Adidas will become Newcastle United’s new kit manufacturer from the 2024/25 season onwards.

The finale wasn’t supposed to air until Friday 1st September, but an accidental release of episode four featured comments from Shearer, Amanda Staveley and chief commercial officer (CCO) Peter Silverstone.

On the imminent deal, Staveley said – “It’s a perfect fit. It allows us to really grow the brand and commercial value” – while CCO Silverstone added “it has the potential to be the most lucrative partnership the club has ever had“.

These are hugely exciting comments when you consider the importance of commercial revenues and how they’ve impacted FFP up until this point.

Just a few weeks ago, Adidas announced a record-breaking £900m deal with Manchester United, where they’d extended their deal at Old Trafford to guarantee the Red Devils a ‘minimum’ of £90m per-season over the next 10 years.

While we may not be able to demand quite the same figures, Shearer’s multi-million claim highlights what a huge breakthrough this is – especially when current kit supplier Castore pay us just £5m per-year.

Adidas will dwarf this figure, helping take the club to the next level from a financial and commercial standpoint, which in turn should boost our spending potential heading into the 2024 summer window and beyond.

So, while Amazon may have momentarily dropped the ball by releasing the final two episodes too soon, it seems our owners, CEO and CCO have struck gold with Adidas!

  1. All the nastiness and envy from the big 6 and financial unfairness play plus the ridiculous rule changes will have no bearing whatsoever on this management and ownership team, it may only slightly delays the inevitable.
These actions have probably made them even more determined to succeed.

  2. Has the potential to be the biggest deal👀… it should be by a mile easily without question and justified for where we are already at in the project.
