Klopp pushing for Premier League U-turn ahead of Toon trip as Liverpool boss hints at appeal

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool will “talk to the authorities” ahead of Sunday’s trip to St James’ Park in a bid to overturn Alexis Mac Allister’s three-game ban.

The Argentine was shown a straight red during their 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, meaning he’ll miss upcoming games against Newcastle, Aston Villa and Wolves, as things stand.

Klopp is unsure if any appeal will be successful, but has told reporters that VAR would never ask the referee to take a second look and show a red card had a yellow been shown in the first instance.

For our sake, let’s hope the World Cup winner misses out, as his dismissal could mean a Premier League debut for Wataru Endo; the former Stuttgart star signed after the Reds missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Here’s what Klopp has had to say on the matter ahead of their trip to Tyneside this weekend:

“The amount of times I have been asked about it shows already it is worth discussing it again, which we will probably do. I asked Macca and he said, ‘I touched him but not really’. OK. Good.

“That was all he told me and, after the game, I saw it back and if you have a list of points of what we need to give a red card, besides contact, no other boxes are ticked in that moment. It’s a decision where I think we all agree if he gives a yellow card, VAR would not overturn it and he gave a red card and VAR is not overturning it because the contact means there is no clear and obvious mistake blah blah blah.

“The punishment of 40 minutes with 10 men in that battle is already punishment enough, but let’s see. I don’t know. We have to talk to the authorities.”

  1. If that gets overturned it’s clear bias!!.

He doesn’t have to break the lads leg for it to be a red card. He was out of control & high in the tackle – if it was Bruno it would be Red & stay red!!.
