Alan Shearer’s message to Eddie Howe and Newcastle fans after Liverpool defeat – Video

Alan She insists there should be ‘no panic’ around Newcastle after we suffered a very late defeat to 10-man Liverpool despite going ahead early.

The BBC pundit admitted that the loss is hugely disappointing, accepting we’ve ‘got to finish them off’ from that position, but was keen to remind us that we’ve just lost to two ‘really good teams’ in Liverpool and Man City.

As Shearer says, it doesn’t get much easier this weekend as we travel to Brighton. However, he’s urged fans to stay calm and the players to pick themselves up, get back on the training pitch and put things right at the Amex on Saturday.

There’s no getting away from the devastating nature of yesterday’s defeat, but it’s good to see our former number nine be the voice of reason on Match of the Day 2 last night, just when social media was full of rage, negativity and shock.

Watch the full clip here:

“There’s no panic. Disappointing, particularly the position that you are in.

“When you have a team on the ropes, like they had Liverpool. They have got to finish them off.

“They had the chances. But no panic, they have played two really good teams in Liverpool and Manchester City. They play another one next weekend against Brighton.

“So it is back to training tomorrow and then working towards next weekend. But no panic.”

  1. Both in this game and last week against City, we needed to show that last season was not a fluke, that we have taken the next step. IMO, we failed at both. Not an excuse that they were two good teams. Last season, we won only once against the squads that finished 1, 2, 3, and 5.

And to give up two late goals when you’re a man up? Inexcusable.

This week, we play Brighton – also a team with CL aspirations – who got hammered by the Hammers at home. Eddie needs to get the ship righted – now!

Struggling to see your logic here. “In his game and last week against City, we needed to show that last season was not a fluke”

We lost against both last season and finished 4th…

We lost against both last season and finished 4th…

Olly: Yes, and it begs the question: Did we finish 4th through luck? Because if you want to take the next step, then you have to win against the best. Not just against the Leeds and the Leicesters and the Fulhams. And when you were man-advantaged for more than an hour…Sunday should have been an opening-day Villa-like beatdown.

Sorry, mate…not seeing your logic here either.

  4. SG does your logic and opinion extend to Aresnal who Man City done the double over so there season was a fluke then was Man Utd a fluke as well considering there supposedly light years ahead of us can’t remember us conceding 7s 6s like they did and they finished 3rd yes yesterday was a killer hopefully the players will learn from it and its been a wake up call for them and some fans need to remember the team is still growing and iearning so there will be times we as fans have to show patience

  5. They have a keeper who kept them in the game, important not to overlook that. Small margins , yes we should of finished them but we were not ****.
