Newcastle linked with another Premier League centre-back ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline

Newcastle United have been linked with a late move for Tottenham defender Eric Dier ahead of tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle and Bayern Munich are showing interest in the 29-year-old, who could leave on loan after falling down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglu.

Tottenham are open to the idea of selling the England international and it has been claimed that we ‘like’ the idea of bringing the 29-year-old to Tyneside, with this coming a few days on from loan links to Harry Maguire.

Dier has had his fair share of criticism in recent years, but his Premier League experience and versatility could appeal to Eddie Howe.

With the early indications suggesting Sven Botman’s ankle injury isn’t serious and recent reports suggesting it’s ‘unlikely’ we bring in another centre-back, I’d take this link with a pinch of salt.

The old Newcastle may fancy a late loan move for Dier, but would we really want a Spurs outcast? Would he really get in our side ahead of Botman or Schar? I’m not so sure.
