According to The Times, Newcastle United have submitted a shock loan bid for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
This comes from North East journalist Martin Hardy, who reports that the 36-year-old Frenchman has ‘so far’ turned down our offer, despite falling down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglu.
The report states that Eddie Howe wants to bring in another experienced goalkeeper, with Martin Dubravka keen on a late move away after losing his first-team place to Nick Pope.
Karl Darlow has also left the club after joining Leeds on a permanent deal, but Loris Karius is still on our books after signing a one-year extension earlier this summer.
It remains to be seen if Lloris will change his min and accept our offer, yet news of our loan bid – which would include no signing fee – comes as a real surprise after Eddie Howe indicated we were closed for business during his press conference this morning.
The last time the former Spurs skipper played at St James’ Park, he conceded five in 45 minutes before being replaced by former Mag Fraser Forster at half-time.
